Alan's Poundsgate Loop, including Dr Blackall's Drive

John Coombes, John Sahadat and John Wilkes (The three amigos!).
Another wet walk, and quite a windy one too on the higher ground. Trees along the route provided sporadic cover, so total soaking was avoided until the last part of the route along Dr Blackall's drive; the usual spectacular views of the Dart Valley gave way to a misty vista which gave an eerie sense of foreboding.
A more secluded (and not to mention free) parking spot can be found on the far side of the first open moor section at Locks Gate Cross and this would make an alternative start and stop point. I seem to remember thinking that last time but promptly forgot all about it!
The inclement weather meant that New Bridge car park and the Spitchwick riverside were uncharacteristically quiet for a Saturday in July. Unlike the original peregrination, we did not stop for lunch on Mel Tor, choosing instead the comfort (and dryness) of The Tavistock Inn where a warm welcome can usually be depended upon whatever the weather.
