John and Kay Coombes, John Sahadat and John Wilkes (The Awesome Foursome!).
So we finally managed a walk on Dartmoor without rain on this lovely end of September day. I could tell you about all the amazing wildlife we encountered on this walk, and how much we enjoyed it, but John C puts it much more poetically:
Didn't we have a lovely day the day we walked out at Scoriton. The hills were steep we saw some sheep & even the deer appeared as it was dry & clear completing it all in six hours you know. Back at the pub we had some lovely grub eaten sat with a lovely view. We had good banter, cider & ale for a while making us smile. Headed back off the moor as the rain spotted the floor, perfect timing, going home thinking of another day hiking some more!
We also discovered how to descend next to Western Walla Brook without ending up in marsh: the trick is to stick to the west bank, despite what it says in the Bossiney Books guide. We crossed the stream a little way down, but I think you could cross at the clapper bridge where the trail first meets the brook and walk between the ancient wall and the water course. When the wall comes to an end, continue in the same direction, following the rough path; you will see the old dry stone wall, extended with a modern fence, near Huntington Cross at the bottom of the hill: head towards that and cross the wall at the stile next the River Avon.
Show him you're cross John!
