Alan's Scoriton Loop

A walk with lovely views and full of archaeological interest, including tin workings and a stone cross. The descent next to the Western Wella Brook (down to the said stone cross) is wet under foot where there is no noticeable path and it is easy to drift into marsh. A tip is to stay close to the main brook, perversely it seems drier there. Also be warned that the start of this walk has such a steep descent that it does seem that you are walking uphill for the rest of the route. For a truly magical experience, look out for deer in the paddock on the right hand side of the path as you descend towards Chalk Ford.
Note that on some signs, and even on the OS map, Scoriton is spelt with two Rs. We have it on high authority (the barmaid in the Tradesman's Arms) that the correct spelling is a single R.
This is heavily based upon walk 7 from the 'South Dartmoor Pub Walks' book by Bossiney Books.
