Julie and Charlie joined us on this short walk in glorious weather conditions in a lovely part of the moor. There is plenty of interest along this route including the remains of a medieval village in the dip just after Hound Tor and an old stone hut presumably dating back to the Hay Tor quarrying days? The route comes within spitting distance of Hay Tor itself and this could easily be added to make the walk a bit longer. Alan tells us that the path past the clapper bridge on the climb back up towards Greator Rocks becomes carpeted in bluebells for a short period during spring. After the walk we decamped to The Rugglestone Inn in Widecombe for refreshments, particularly welcome given that it was the first pub visit since lock down started to ease (outdoor service only). I managed three 😋
